Event Overview
Two Farmer Training and Demonstration Programmes were organized on 01 and 03 September 2026 and one method demonstration on "Spraying Schedules for Turmeric Crop Using IISR Booster Packets" under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) of the Government of India by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices (AICRP on Spices) and the Turmeric Research Station, SKLTGHU, Kammarpally.
The training programmes were held at two locations: Yergatla Village & Mandal, Nizamabad District (Telangana); and Mendora Village & Mandal, Nizamabad District (Telangana), with the method demonstration organised at the institute. The programmes aimed at enhancing the income and agricultural productivity of Scheduled Caste farmers by promoting the adoption of modern, science-based turmeric cultivation technologies. Financial support was provided by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices, Kozhikode, Kerala, under the SCSP.
Training Programmes
First Training Programme — Yergatla Village, Nizamabad District (01 September 2026)
The first farmer training programme on "Advanced Production Technologies for Sustainable and Profitable Turmeric Cultivation" was conducted at Yergatla Village, Nizamabad District, on 01.09.2026. The programme was organized by Dr. G. Vidya, Scientist & Head, Turmeric Research Station, and attended by Sri Rudra Vinayak, Mandal Horticulture Officer; Sri Vaishnav, Mandal Agriculture Officer; the Chairman of the Agriculture Market Committee; and the Sarpanch of Yergatla Village.
Dr. G. Vidya delivered a lecture on turmeric varieties suitable for the Telangana region, selection of quality seed material, seed treatment, planting methods, recommended schedule of manures and fertilizers, irrigation management, organic package of practices, harvesting indices, appropriate harvesting time, and the identification and management of major pest and disease incidences in turmeric. IISR Booster Packets were distributed to the farmers.
A total of 81 farmers participated in this training programme.

Second Training Programme — Mendora Mandal, Nizamabad District (03 September 2026)
An awareness programme on "Scientific, Sustainable and Profitable Turmeric Cultivation" was conducted at Mendora Mandal, Nizamabad District, on 03.09.2026 by the Turmeric Research Station, Kammarpally. IISR Booster Powder was also distributed to all farmers who participated.
Dr. G. Vidya, Scientist & Head, Turmeric Research Station, Kammarpally, delivered a detailed lecture on selection of suitable soils, quality seed rhizomes, seed treatment, recommended manures and fertilizers, and appropriate cultivation practices. A detailed explanation was also provided on the organic farming practices developed by ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Calicut, along with identification and management of major pests and diseases, disease symptoms, pest incidence and their control measures. Farmers were also educated on harvesting indices, the appropriate stage for harvesting, and various value-added products that can be prepared from turmeric and its by-products.
The programme was attended by Sri Rudra Vinayak, Mandal Horticulture Officer; Sri Vasanth, Mandal Agriculture Officer; Sarpanch and other important representatives of the village, along with 83 participating farmers.

More than 160 Scheduled Caste farmers participated across both training events, where scientists and experts delivered practical, field-oriented training on turmeric.
Method Demonstration
Spraying Schedules for Turmeric Crop Using IISR Booster Packets — TRS, Kammarpally (24 August 2026)
The method demonstration on the spraying schedule for turmeric crop using IISR Booster Packets was conducted at the Turmeric Research Station, Kammarpally, on 24.08.2026, for a total of 85 farmers. The programme was conducted by Dr. G. Vidya, Scientist and Head, Turmeric Research Station, Kammarpally, along with Sri Raju, Mandal Horticulture Officer. The Sarpanches of Kammarpally and Hasakothur villages and the Chairman of the Agriculture Market Committee, Kammarpally, also participated.
The programme mainly focused on the uses and importance of IISR Booster Powder in organic farming, the recommended spraying schedule for the booster packets, and the complete production technology of turmeric. The farmers were provided with practical information on the proper application of IISR Booster Powder for improving crop growth and promoting sustainable turmeric cultivation.

Programme Impact
The training and demonstration programmes significantly enhanced farmers' awareness and understanding of modern, science-based agricultural practices for turmeric cultivation. Through expert guidance and hands-on technical training, participants gained practical knowledge on:
- Improved turmeric crop production and variety selection
- Integrated pest and disease management using eco-friendly practices
- Preventive measures such as neem cake enriched with Trichoderma, neem oil sprays and other organic inputs
- Nutrient management through recommended manures and fertilizers
- Climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices
- Post-harvest handling, harvesting indices and value addition
The free distribution of IISR Booster Packets encouraged farmers to adopt recommended organic technologies in their fields, thereby improving access to modern inputs. Farmers showed keen interest in applying IISR Booster Powder during crop growth to improve plant growth and enhance yield. The initiative is expected to contribute to increased turmeric productivity, reduced production costs, improved produce quality and enhanced farm income, while promoting sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening the livelihood opportunities of Scheduled Caste farming communities in Nizamabad District, Telangana.
